Step by Step Guide to Selling Digital Downloads For Therapists
There are many different types of digital products you can sell as a therapist. Whether you are an OT, PT, or SLP. Packaging your knowledge into a buyable product is a great way to make a side income. I recommend that therapists start by selling digital downloads for therapists. It is a great way to start selling with little upfront costs.
As a rehabilitation therapist, you possess a wealth of knowledge and expertise that can be packaged into digital products, offering you an excellent opportunity to generate a side income.
The world of selling digital downloads is a cost-effective and convenient way to share your expertise with others while earning additional revenue.
This is my proven step-by-step process for selling digital downloads for rehabilitation therapists. Occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech-language therapists.

1 – Identify your First Digital Product
To embark on your digital product journey, start with something you have made to use in your practice. Why? Because you know that it works! Reflect on your experience and identify resources you've developed that have yielded positive results.
For example, my first product was my Pediatric OT Goals books I created in 2020 and they are still selling successfully today.
These products can be your worksheets, progress trackers, schedule worksheets, activity idea lists, home programs, sensory processing checklists, etc.
2 – Determine Potential Buyers for your Digital Product
Consider if your digital product is for other therapists to use or for clients to use directly. In the online space, this is called your target audience or your niche.
Understanding who your potential buyers are will help you tailor your product to meet their specific needs and preferences. Whether you focus on empowering therapists with valuable tools or providing resources for clients, clarifying your target audience is essential for effective marketing and deciding where to sell your product.
3 – Make it Visually Appealing
Functional products are great, but buyers also want to buy something pretty.
As the digital marketplace becomes increasingly crowded, it's essential to stand out from the competition. Invest time in designing visually appealing digital products that not only offer practical value but also engage customers on a visual level.
Attention to detail in layout, graphics, and overall presentation will enhance the appeal of your products and make them more enticing to potential buyers.
Use programs such as Canva. And I love to use graphics from Creative Fabrica. My friend Pam has a group that helps you learn Canva.
4 – Decide Where to List Your Product
In the online space, this is called Platform. Knowing where your buyers purchase these types of products is key. You also need to consider the costs of your platform.
Selecting the right platform to sell your digital downloads is crucial for reaching your target audience and maximizing your sales. Research and identify platforms that cater to your specific niche and where your potential buyers are likely to make purchases. Consider factors such as ease of use, marketing capabilities, and cost when choosing a platform.
Popular options include online marketplaces like Etsy and Teachers Pay Teachers. Or dedicated e-commerce platforms like Shopify on your own therapy website, or platforms like Podia which allow you to sell more than just digital downloads.
Selling digital downloads as a rehabilitation therapist opens up exciting opportunities to share your knowledge and expertise while generating a valuable side income.

5 – Sell your Product!
Set up your seller profile on your selected platform, price and list your product! Each platform is different, but at this step you will probably also have to also set up a payment processor such as Paypal or Stripe. I like to sell on Teacher's Pay Teachers. My friend Beth has a great group if you want to learn more about how to sell there.
There are many other things to consider when selling products online, but if you follow this simple step-by-step process you will be well on your way!
By identifying your first product, understanding your potential buyers, creating visually appealing resources, and selecting the right platform, you can embark on a successful journey as a digital product entrepreneur.
